Introduction

As a surfer myself, I often witnessed beginners struggling to decipher complex weather forecasts to find the perfect surf spot. This inspired me to create Vela, a surf forecasting app that offers personalized recommendations based on individual abilities and preferences.

Step 1: Understand

The Challenge

Fitted set out to simplify home fitness by creating a platform that allows users to plan and track their workouts based on their schedules.

The app needed to cater to a diverse audience, ranging from beginners to experienced athletes, and provide a seamless user experience that encourages consistency and engagement.

Key challenges

Designing a clean, intuitive interface that simplifies workout scheduling.

Ensuring the platform caters to users with varying fitness levels and workout preferences.

Including features that motivate users, such as progress tracking and calendar integration.

Target Audience

Individuals seeking an easy-to-use fitness app, from beginners to calisthenics experts.

To align with Fitted’s vision, I focused on understanding the needs of a diverse audience and their fitness goals.

Provide a customizable workout planner that integrates seamlessly into users’ lives.

Ensure a clean, responsive design that works flawlessly across devices.

Include interactive elements like progress tracking and workout reminders to foster motivation.

Step 2: Unterstand

Defining Needs and Pain Points

Based on my research data, I created an affinity map that I turned into a User Persona to guide all following design decisions.

Step 3: Ideation

Structuring the Solution

I began with low-fidelity sketches to explore layout ideas and user flows. These sketches evolved into mid-fidelity wireframes, which I used to create a clickable prototype for testing.

Sitemap Overview

A card sorting exercise with six participants helped me design intuitive navigation, ensuring users could easily find features like the spot filter.
